Julie Ondersma MSN, DNP, FNP-BC, CNM
Julie is passionate about empowering women through education, allowing women to feel confident making informed decisions about their healthcare and birth. She enjoys building a trusting
relationship with women and their families in order to provide a holistic approach to each individual’s healthcare and the birthing experience.
Julie’s journey to midwifery is a bit untraditional but she finally feels like she’s home. She graduated from Calvin College in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Communications. Her love for birth came from being a Spanish Interpreter at the hospital and getting called to the labor and delivery floor. She went on to nursing school solely to be a labor and delivery nurse and worked in OB until 2009. Since she was used to the school routine, she kept going and graduated again from Grand Valley in 2008 with her MSN and has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in several areas including hospitalist medicine, pediatric ER, hospice, and midlife & menopause. Through the influence of Breck and Sarah, Julie went back to grad school for the 4th time and is proud to join the Advanced Ob-Gyn team as a midwife. She is currently working on her doctorate degree and then promises to be done with school!
Julie was born and raised here in Grand Rapids and lives with her husband and 3 kids. They love all things sports, especially mountain biking, basketball and snowboarding. She has been a summer camp nurse for 8 years and has enjoyed medical mission trips to Guatemala, Haiti and Dominican Republic.
