Kate Van Heck MSN, CNM
Kate Van Heck has held a life-long passion for birth and supporting women. She started her nursing career working as a cardiac and kidney transplant nurse. After getting married, she and her military husband moved to Japan where she immersed herself in the birth world and gained valuable experience working with women. She graduated from Philadelphia University with her Masters in Nursing and started working as a Certified Nurse-Midwife in 2015. Some of her more influential clinical rotations involved a midwifery mission trip to Honduras, where she supported and advocated for women in labor, as well as rotations in underserved rural areas in West Michigan. One of her favorite rotations involved attending home births and birth center births.
After graduating, Kate worked as a full-scope Certified Nurse-Midwife in a variety of underserved and rural communities around Muskegon and Fremont. She maintains a passion for providing evidence-based education and care to women, empowering them to make informed decisions and be active participants in their own health. Kate believes that everyone should have the birth they desire, regardless of socioeconomic status or birth setting. Kate loves being a midwife and feels privileged to be part of the labor and birth process. She is excited to continue her career in midwifery as she joins the excellent team at Advanced Ob-Gyn.
Kate lives in Sparta with her husband, two adorable children, and her dog (a Japanese Shiba Inu breed that she brought back with her from Japan). She enjoys family time, crafting, reading, and going for walks and bike rides. During the beautiful Michigan summers, she loves being outdoors and spending time up north at their lake trailer.
